The Book

Shaky Ground originates from a childhood memory associated with the First World war. One of peter's cousins tried to dismantel an unexploded shell and died later that evening due to heavy injuries. Ypres was the front line of the first world war but looking at it today it is hardly imaginable. Above land almost all traces of the horrific war have been erased. However, to this day, human remains, shelters, fragments of projectiles and others remnants of the war are still found whenever someone sticks a spade into the ground. Thousands of missing soldiers lie there somewhere beneath the soil accompanied with other remains of the war.

The Process

This is my second time working with Peter after having worked with him on his previous book (un)expected. Working together with Peter is very satisfying for me. The feeling is mutual I have been told. During the process of making this book and the previous one as well we learn a lot from each other and get amazing results from it. We got a result neither of us expected but satisfying nonetheless. The topic of this book is one that lies close to my heart as the first world war is also something that facisnates me and the memorials that have been left behind. An overal delight to work on.
