The Book

Keith Haring Jean-Michel Basquiat Crossing Lines, accompanied the exhibition on their work in the National Gallery of Victoria. Haring and Basquiat changed the art world forever with their work and how they portrayed political situations and social issues. To this day their work has a huge influence on popculture and contemporary visuals. The exhibition and book portray the work they did in their short careers. The book is a catalogue of all the pieces at the museum.

The Process

Of course it feels like an enormous honour to work on a major publication on the works of two artists as famous as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Likewise I felt honoured by the faith in us (Jos Morree Fine Books and Colour & Books) by the National Gallery of Victoria. Half the globe between us and they gave us full responsibility to produce this big book in such an enormous quantity (20.000 copies were shipped to Melbourne). I worked on the hundreds of images reproduced in this book, had colour proofs produced and managed the adjustments. Organising press checks for such a huge production is very much different from what we normally do. It takes hours for the printer to finish one sheet.
The director general of the NGV commented highly favourable on the overall quality of the book. On my visit to the show I witnessed my self how roughly 200 books a day were sold in the museum shop. Staggering.
