The Book

Due to a lack of interest tomorrow has been cancelled, deals with the universal fear of dying and our need to understand the bridge between ourselves and the unknown. The pictures where taken in the Deep South of the US and provides a sense of understanding for Sanne of this concept eventhough it is irrational. But then again, as she says it, the south isn't a rational place. The south is defined by poverty, religion and racism. Through her seven years of travel through the south eastern part of the US she submerged herself in the southern gothic, a local literary movement. She found that as opposed to the original direction of the gothic literature, evil was not found in the supernatural anymore, but in everyday life, in the mundane.

The Process

In toning her images for this project I had to stay clear from any reference to nature as something beautiful or delicate. Sanne sees nature as something scary. It represents death to her. In her photo's she portrays the trees, lakes and other places as gloom-y , there is decay and at the same time there is life.

This book got elected amongst the Best Dutch Books of 2015.
